A series of photographs about climbing. A unique sport where the difference between the performance of men and women is small, and keeps getting smaller.
In this series of photographs you see three women who are lead climbing. When you lead climb, you climb out in front of your rope and your climbing partner. As a leader you look for the best and easiest way to get to the top of the cliff. This requires strength, endurance, insight and courage. Every few meters you will find a bolt drilled into the rock face to which you attach your own protection. If you don’t make it to the next bolt, you will make a fall. Secured by your climbing partner and tied in to a rope to avoid hitting the ground during a fall, you only hold on to the rock to get to the top.

Day 03: Segara Anak Lake and Hot springs (2008m) – Senaru Crater Rim(2.641m)
On day three we got to wake up to this stunning lake with baby volcaon Baru Jari in it, and we got to enjoy the hot springs. Heavenly…
After lunch time we left the lake and went up to the crater Rim of Senaru. We walked for 3 hours up this route, a steep and stony way up to the summit. Here were some more great views over the lake and Baru Jari.
We spent our last night here, before hiking the last part down through some lush forests on day 4.
An absolute amazing hike with some of the most stunning views I have ever got to see. So happy we did this in 4 days. There is a 3 day trek but then you do not get to spend the night dawn by the lake and the hot springs. Which would be a total miss out!!
Day 02: Sembalun Crater Rim(2.639m) – Summit/Top 3.726m – Segara Anak Lake and Hot springs (2008m).
We woke up at 02:30 am and had some light breakfast, then leave at 03:00 am we started the trek to Rinjani Summit (3726 m). Walking time approximate 3 hours and 20 minutes. The first stage is a moderate climb for 120 minutes, while the second stage is a fairly easy but long trek. The last hour is very steep and difficult. (There are many loose stones, and as you take two steps forward you will slip one step back). From the Summit, you can see all of Lombok island, Bali, Sumbawa and Segara Anak Lake. Such a pity it was so cloudy! After sunrise went down to the Sembalun crater rim and had a hot breakfast.
After breakfast and a rest, we went down to the lake and hot spring. The trail down is very steep and slippery, we needed 3 hours to get down to the level of the lake and hot spring. The lunch was provided by the lake and hot spring just 100m walk from the lake. Then we explored the lake and swam in the hot springs to soak and heal our skin. See the next post for images of this heavenly place.
